I, sadly, had to work on the first day of school, but Heath took the requisite first day picture as requested. Here is the handsome young man.
(Seeing him makes me think about this: At our church Care Group the night before school started, our friend Beth Hames appropriately asked Hudson the most important night-before-school-starts question..."What are you going to wear?" It brought back so many memories of those its-the-first-day-of-school-what-do-I-wear planning sessions and their importance. Painfully comical memories, at present. And I wonder now, did any of those outfits make me who I am today? Hudson looked at Beth with a blank stare in response and said, "I don't know"...Thank you, God, for boys.)
Hudson has been having a great time and each day comes home with new tales of fun and adventure from the eyes of a 7 year old! He loves his new teacher and is making new friends daily! I came home early from work on his first day to spend some time with Hudson. When I got home, he was beaming! I asked him about his first day and he overflowed with "It was awesome!!" When I questioned him about the days experiences and what he learned, he said, again with bounding eagerness and excitement, "Rules!!"
From inside this jaded and sarcastic mind, it is hard to remember that much joy about school, but I am so thankful that his gladness has carried throughout the whole first week! And I pray that he continues to become excited when he talks to me about "4-square-math," "mathematics equations," "reading time" and the like.

Who's that studly guy with his messenger bag slung over his shoulder? Where did he get his snazzy fashion sense?
Honestly, Hudson may be the hippest little second grader I've ever seen!
He looks GOOD! I'd like to think I planted a tiny seed in his mind that set him on this path to first-day-of-school cuteness.
