Heath returned home from his vacation with a case of vertigo (an inner ear disorder that causes you to become dizzy -and stay dizzy - with ANY movement). As a result, he wasn't allowed to work for another week for fear that he would fall off a ladder, drop a patient, or wreck a fire truck. (Of course it was also a good excuse for him not to load the dishwasher...haha!)
So, work foregone, we took off to the lake for a few days where my parents had rented a little lakeside cottage for the week. Nothing plush or luxurious, just a simple cinder block two-room cottage with running water, electricity and a stove! It was heavenly!

Right off the back porch lay a "beach" and, of course, the full lake... There was a treasured shallow area followed by a rock ledge that poured over into 4 foot depths that kept the kids (and us adults) at play in the water for hours! The water was warm and full from the 100+ days of rain this year. It was a perfect setup for outdoor days!
Heath and I also learned that, although we choose to believe that we are still young, our bodies are old. We went out on the boat - skiing and being pulled in the tube - and we felt it with every movement for days afterward. But we had a blast.
It, of course, continued to rain everyday, but luckily the storms were mild and brief and when we couldn't go out in the boat or play in the water, we fished or played games. Grandpa taught Hudson how to play chess, while Grandma tried to play dominoes or card games with Jake with him making up rules as they went.

It was all so relaxing for me and I loved just floating in the middle of the lake, head back and eyes closed, waiting for the boat to come get me after I had been tossed off the the tube or my skis...Or, like a dork, scream singing "How Great Thou Art" at the top of my lungs as I was being pulled behind the boat going 30+ mph. It was wonderful...It was also so fun for all of us to be with my parents (and my sister and her family one day, too). We all had so much fun!!! Thanks, Mom and Dad, for the experience!
